Renting car tips
Many car rental agencies offer discounts to members of the American Automobile Association, the American Association of Retired Persons as well as different warehouse clubs such as Sam’s club and Costco. Business travelers are often eligible for corporate discounts. Be sure to ask about both types of discounts as this is the way to get an even greater discount.
If you are not traveling alone or you company is not a large one it might be wise to ask in advance for the smallest rental car which is available. As most car rental operators keep larger fleets of medium and larger fleets which you might not need, the chance of being bumped up increases if a smaller car is unavailable. There is usually no added cost in similar cases.
Also, contact in advance your insurance company to ask if your car insurance policy covers rental cars as well. This may offer yet another discount from the car rental price. Before signing in the vehicle rental contract, make sure you ask your operator what actually is included in the price as many rental companies add on charges for sales tax and rents paid to the airports.
You should carefully inspect the car you are given for scratches so that you avoid being held liable for problems that might have already existed. To make sure that you are not paying extra charges at the end, get the car back on time with a tank full of gas.
